Chat Privacy
Chat messages are screened by an automated system for spam. Messages are generally not stored, but suspicious messages flagged by the system may be retained indefinitely and reviewed by a human to enhance anti-spam measures and quality control.
At the start of every chat, a record of the session is logged, including timestamps, IP addresses, cookies, and similar data for you and your chat partner. This information is used to monitor and track misuse, such as spamming or hacking, and may also be shared with law enforcement or analyzed to produce statistical data. These records are typically stored for 120 days.
Webcam images may be captured during video chats, uploaded to Meepe.com's servers, and reviewed for moderation purposes. These images may be stored to improve the platform's moderation process.
Meepe.com offers an unmoderated video chat mode. In this mode, the above-mentioned monitoring does not occur; however, text chats are still scanned for spam, and all other rules apply.
At the end of a Meepe.com chat, users may save the chat log and share a link. Be cautious about sharing personal information, as strangers can share or save what you reveal, including screenshots or recordings.
If a chat log is saved, the text is converted into an image and stored indefinitely with a unique ID. Associated data, such as IP addresses and cookies, may also be retained. IP addresses of those who view the chat log may be stored to maintain a unique view counter.
Meepe.com may share stored records with third parties for law enforcement purposes, compliance monitoring, or process improvement.
Information Shared with Other Users
In Meepe.com text chats, the following may be visible to your chat partner:
- Shared interests or Facebook likes (if enabled).
- Messages you send during the chat.
- Notifications about shared languages (if applicable).
- Notifications if you are using Meepe.com’s mobile site.
- Your college name (if both users are using college mode).
In video chats, your IP address is used to establish a connection but is not displayed to the other user. If you are uncomfortable with this, consider using text mode instead.
Meepe.com may notify your chat partners if you use virtual webcam software.
Use of Cookies
Meepe.com uses cookies to save preferences, including interests you add, and to store non-identifying technical information about your device. Your computer is assigned a randomly generated ID cookie.
Third-party advertisers, including Google AdSense, use cookies to track your activity and show relevant ads. You may opt out of Google AdSense tracking by managing the DoubleClick DART cookie. Other third-party ad vendors may provide similar opt-out options.
Meepe.com uses Google Analytics to collect non-identifying usage statistics. Google offers a browser add-on for opting out of Google Analytics.
